From Guest Blogger Gabe:
2008 will forever remain a special year for Trin and me. Gustav’s arrival has brought much joy to our lives. No amount of research or reading or advice adequately prepares you for the profound moment when you go from being an individual to becoming a parent, from a married couple to becoming a family.
In an instant, Gustav became the most important person in our lives.
The reach of Gustav’s impact became evident this holiday season beginning at Thanksgiving; he managed to do something that hadn’t happened in nearly a decade: he brought everyone in the family together.
To my recollection, the last time everyone from the Hugel side came together was for Mom Mom’s funeral. Dozens of opportunities presented themselves in the intervening years: Christmas holidays, birthdays, Thanksgivings, graduations, weddings.
But it wasn’t until Gustav arrived, that everyone came together as a family--with Uncle David as the pater familias and mom making magic in the kitchen--to celebrate, and to recognize the beginning of a new chapter.

This Thanksgiving marked a new beginning.
Surrounded by family—both born into it and sworn into it—as well as a wonderful network of friends, this Thanksgiving marked the beginning of new traditions.
As we look to make resolutions for 2009 and beyond, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on everything we have to be grateful for.
And to thank everyone for making this year so special.
