Gustav had an appointment with an ophthalmologist this morning because up until he was about 4 1/2 months, he had an eyelash coming out of this hole from the inner fold of his right eye. The nurse practitioner and pediatrician were concerned about it at his well baby 4 month checkup and referred us to a specialist to ensure that his eye duct was normal and that this wasn't a birth defect.
The ophthalmologist examined him and noted that he did have a dimple there, which wasn't uncommon. I believe she said that it was an accessory tear duct. As long as his eyes didn't crust up or that he had a lot of tears spilling out, it should be fine. Normally the duct exits out of the nose, but he has an accessory coming out of his eye. See below for the picture that she gave me.

As far as the lash, that was uncommon. The one that caused the concern came out right before he turned 5 months. However, I saw another one there this past weekend! Guess that will be his unique trait...
