We're in shock. We had to put Chloe down a little after midnight. We were supposed to visit her Saturday morning but Gabe worked late and we didn't make it.
She had come home after her biopsies but then she started hiding and we couldn't give her her medicines. Since she needed to go back to the clinic to have her stitches removed, the vet recommended that we hospitalize her so that they could make sure she got her meds. She was doing great, gaining weight and making friends. Gabe had cleaned out her litter box and saved a lot of plastic bags (for the waste) in anticipation of her return.
The call came in the evening that she had torn her abdomen open at the biopsy site. We told the emergency clinic vet to operate but during surgery they saw that she had punctured her intestine. The prognosis was very poor because the leaks would be fatal. They didn't think she would make it past the night. Gabe called Paula to stay with Gustav while we went to the clinic at 11pm.
She was still under anesthesia but stirred several times while we spoke to her. We told the vet that we couldn't decide if we should let her die naturally or put her down. The vet was blunt and said that she would be under a lot of pain if we let her die naturally. We couldn't let that happen and we also wanted to be with her when she passed.
Chloe was "the sweetest most lovable kitty ever." We were so hoping that she would be with us for a few more years. Everyone who met her loved her. We are just devastated.
