We had a really special Labor Day weekend. My uncle, his wife, and several of their friends drove down to Atlanta from Maryland for a Thai golf tournament at Stone Mountain.
We met the group at the Aquarium on Saturday morning and then went to the Botanical Garden. Afterward we came back to our house so that we could have an early 2nd birthday celebration and cake.
On Sunday, Gustav and I met up with my aunt and her friends for lunch and shopping while the men golfed. At some point, it was suggested that we leave Gustav with them for an overnight at the hotel. Gabe was immediately against the idea so I told my aunt to give me some time to talk to him.
We've both have never been away from Gustav since he's been born. The most that either of us has been away from him was just a couple of days, but he was always with the other parent. This was a big step. But I explained to Gabe that my uncle and aunt's friends were a doctor and nurse who had 4 grandchildren of their own. Also, there would be many other doctors and nurses in the hotel. Plus, it would mean a lot to my uncle and aunt. Gabe agreed.
We dropped Gustav off at the hotel, and then we went on a date night! Ethiopian dinner followed by a double feature of The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Kids Are All Right. It was a great night. And I only called once.
The next morning I went to pick up Gustav because the gang was heading back to Maryland. They told me how good he was: he danced at the reception; slept well and only woke up once in the night; didn't cry at all. At the Waffle House where we all had breakfast, he was in such a good mood. He was singing all of his songs (ABC,Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa Baa Black Sheep) and being so delightful that even the waitress stopped to just stare and smile at him.
It was sad when it was time for goodbye.
