Oh boy. We've gotten several messages from Ms. Clyne about Gustav's behavior in class, such as talking out of turn and being off task.
It seems that every year he is separated from his best friend and then a new partner in crime crops up. In preschool, it was Eric. In kindergarten, it was Days. In first grade, it was CJ. Now it's Alex.
We told her that his grandmother is in hospice so perhaps that is affecting his behavior. Also, Greta attending his school is probably affecting him too. He gets embarrassed when she tells everyone about him. I try to tell him that she is super proud of him and wants everyone to know, but he gets so mad at her.
So Gabe had a conference with her and below are the notes:

So Gabe had a conference with her and below are the notes:
- she feels like he doesn't confide in her
- she only knows how social he is when observing him playing with friends
- she wonders if he isn't challenged enough
- will start him on 3rd grade work
- knows we are doing the right things for him
- he loses interest when it gets too hard
- Gabe thinks it's because of fear of failure and why he doesn't try
- he needs a lot of verbal praise
- started sucking on shirt so will give him chew toy
- Ms. Clyne also said he is extremely bright and his verbal and math scores are great
- she said it makes sense that he picks the friends he does b/c he can be the leader or the smartest.
Even though he was tested for ADD and wasn't diagnosed with it, we are going to use some methods that have been helpful such as:
- more protein in diet
- perhaps start taking fish oil
- meditation before bed
Also, Gabe wants to find older role models for him. His core group of friends are very smart, but also a bit naughty. He needs to be around more kids who are older and where he can model their behavior.
