Community Input Before BOE

Gustav spoke again in front of the Board of Education and we are so proud of him. And he wrote the speech himself.

Good morning. My name is Gustav Wardell and I’m a 6thgrader at Wadsworth Magnet School for High Achievers.

I’m speaking today because teachers should have a choice if they want to go back to school.

My three reasons are:

1.    My teachers didn’t receive a choice to return.

2.    I cant under stand my teachers behind a mask

3.    Corona virus is dangerous and spreads quickly.

Suggestions: Teachers and students should remain in remote learning

Conclusions:

Teachers and students shouldn’t go back because the corona virus is rapidly spreading with new cases everyday and going back just adds to it. For some students in band it wouldn’t work because they’re transmitting air everywhere, and for PE when the coach tries doing a fun activity instead of jumping jacks, for example tag, the students would get tired and since the mask blocks your nose you will have a hard time breathing and probably take it off to breath which increases the spread. And when teachers talk the mask makes it harder to hear them so there will probably be more questions about what the teacher said. And for the parents whose kids are at home learning, they will probably have even more problems.

Lunch the most comforting part of the school day a period where you can eat and chat except that every single student takes off their mask to eat, which is a 100% chance of spread and if one person has the virus at a table it would get to the entire table and then their class and to the point where almost the entire school has the virus. And even if the kids social distanced the cafeteria and classroom wouldn’t have enough space.

One of my neighbor’s entire household was infected with the virus. And  if they went to school they would spread it so they should stay at home and keep other people safe. They also went to their grandparents house and they didn’t know but they spread the virus to them, and the grandmother had to be hospitalized. This shows how the virus spreads easily.
